Sewer Cleaning

The Lancaster Area Sewer Authority (LASA) utilizes two combination vacuum jetter trucks to conduct regular maintenance on the sanitary sewer system. These advanced trucks are essential tools in cleaning sewer lines and removing blockages to ensure optimal system performance. Each vehicle is equipped with high-pressure water jet nozzles that are inserted into the sewer mains. These powerful nozzles scour the interior walls of the pipes, dislodging built-up grease, sediment, and other debris, which is then flushed downstream to the nearest manhole for removal.

In addition to the jetting system, the trucks are equipped with a robust vacuum unit that rapidly extracts loosened debris from the system, minimizing the risk of reaccumulation or downstream issues. Each truck is self-contained and carries all the necessary tools and equipment to complete a wide range of cleaning and maintenance operations on-site. When needed, the trucks can also deploy a specialized cutter head attachment designed to remove invasive tree roots, trim protruding laterals, and eliminate other stubborn obstructions that cannot be cleared through jetting alone.

This comprehensive maintenance work is vital for preventing future blockages, preserving the designed flow capacity of the sewer lines, and reducing the amount of debris that reaches LASA’s pumping stations. On average, LASA staff clean approximately 350,000 feet of pipeline every year, contributing significantly to the long-term health, reliability, and efficiency of the sewer infrastructure.
